My friend Ann Bradshaw, posted a Thoreau genealogy quote on her blog: . In his quote he is referring to the Mohawk American Indians and their "lack" of knowledge of their ancestors. Arguably, he implies that he felt Americans had a much deeper understanding of their own ancestors, relying on more than just stories (written documentation perhaps).
